The Poor People’s Army and Poor People’s Economic Human Rights Campaign will amass poor and homeless people to demand that our politicians and society should prioritize #LivesOverLuxury. We will meet at the Liberty Bell on Independence Mall to announce our political independence from the two corporate political parties in the U.S. that serve the rich and powerful, while killing poor people from wars at home and abroad, caging them in immigration jails and in prisons, not providing universal healthcare, not ensuring affordable access to food, jobs, and housing for all. We demand a new system. We will then march down Market Street to Joe Biden’s headquarters at 1500 Market St. and hold another rally outside. We will march peacefully, and encourage observation of CDC guidelines. Read more about the march here.
The day before the march, come and participate in a People's Movement Assembly, a day of discussions and workshops, to be held outside, socially-distanced, somewhere in N. Philly, August 16th. Details TBA. Contact us if you would like to teach or facilitate a workshop. Read more about the Assembly and our political perspective here.
These last 4 years have been challenging to say the least. For the last few decades, the Poor People’s Economic Human Rights Campaign has always organized the largest marches on the openings of both the Democratic and Republican National Conventions. Now, with all the serious crises that are happening in the country and the world, what we do when we have the world’s attention (on opening days of these conventions) becomes even more important. We need to use that time with the world’s media to talk about crucial issues for humanity: the extinction of our planet, poverty and homelessness, community violence and police brutality, hunger and threats to our food and water, and the elimination of war.
This year’s Democratic Convention will be taking place virtually. Therefore, we have decided to relocated the Milwaukee march to Philadelphia (the site of Biden's national headquarters).
This is not a new kind of organization, rather it is a nonviolent army of the poor, similar to peasant armies in other parts of the world.
Because we know you know the seriousness of all this, we are asking for your assistance. We intend to demand that both political parties begin to prioritize #LivesOverLuxury. We are #coming2getour67cents of every tax dollar that is spent on war and occupation, to put towards the poor, the planet, and to preserve humanity.
Poor People's Army is doing TAKEOVER HOUSING ACTIONS on the new underground railroad. We do this to house families that cannot find affordable homes to live in. Poor People's Economic Human Rights Campaign has done Takeovers for 30+ years, and that was chronicled in the film, "Takeover," and others. Most of our Takeover Houses are confidential out of necessity, to keep people with a roof over their heads. But we will make some of them public. A PPEHRC report coming out soon in collaboration with a dozen cartographers will show we could easily end homelessness in Philadelphia, given there are 10 abandoned properties for every homeless family. These abandoned properties should be part of the Philadelphia Landbank. But it's not doing anything for nobody right now. It's being used as a landgrab, instead of to provide decent, affordable, accessible housing for all people. This ties into the Covid-19 Pandemic, which rages in crowded shelters. We need affordable housing now, and publicized housing takeovers is one way to draw attention to the City and demand humane housing for all people.
[We will follow social distancing guidelines and people are encouraged to wear masks and bring hand sanitizer.]
We have homeless families that need housing, we need landlords that will rent to people with bad credit. We need housing vouchers from the City. It's unsafe for people to go into crowded, infected shelters. The City needs to figure out ways to house people NOW!

Your donation is an opportunity to be part of something bigger. To support a movement of the poor and homeless, led by those experiencing poverty and homelessness.
On opening day of the Democratic National Convention, August 17th, 2020, we want to amass the largest #PoorPeoplesArmy in the belly of the beast… to fight for humanity for those of us here at home and those abroad. The children of the U.S., of Africa, of Venezuela, of Puerto Rico and Palestine (and the list goes on) are counting on us! Can we count on you to enlist today?
